Inspired by M.F.K Fisher’s An alphabet for gourmets , Laura wanted to share “A reverence for something delicious that came from the earth , style in simplicity , seasonal eating, and that explicit connection between eating well and living well.“

“My eating philosophy is definitely vegan and rooted in the seasons, but I also cook and eat for joy and happiness” First Mess cookbook introduction.
Here are a few photos of some of my favourite recipes from the First Mess.
If you’re looking for a new cookbook to add to your collection , this would be my top pick!
Buckwheat Groat Cereal – sprinkle on top of yogurt or chia pudding. Vanilla Corn Cake with Roasted Strawberries – OMG this is soooooo nummy! I flubbed the Whipped Coconut Cream suggested by Laura so substituted with Simply Vanilla vegan ice cream ! Cookies for Breakfast – Loaded with goodness… Crispy Avocado Tacos – I bbq’d some chicken thighs to add to the tacos. Sergio doesn’t mind vegan recipes but it was Father’s Day so I thought chicken would be a nice touch! I whipped up Napa and Kale Slaw with Crunchy BBQ Cauliflower & Pickled Jalapeño Ranch. Taken from Laura’s First Mess Food Blog. This combination is so full of favour. The perfect meal for the first day of summer! Mocha Hemp Fuel – So simple to make and tastes absolutely fabulous . Vanilla Coconut Coffee Creamer – oh so good!
